65 faculty members from AG Barr's law school alma mater say he has 'failed to fulfill his oath of office'
Law professors and faculty from George Washington University Law School, Attorney General William Barr's alma mater, said in a letter Tuesday he has "failed to fulfill his oath of office to 'support and defend the Constitution of the United States.' "

The rebuke comes after continued fallout over the departure of Geoffrey Berman, the federal prosecutor ousted over the weekend by the Trump administration, and adds to a chorus of criticism over Barr's actions as attorney general. Barr received his Juris Doctor degree from the law school in 1977, and while serving as attorney general under then-President George H.W. Bush he received an honorary degree from the university in 1992.
In a statement signed by 65 faculty and professors from the law school, the group wrote that Barr's actions as attorney general "have undermined the rule of law, breached constitutional norms, and damaged the integrity and traditional independence of his office and of the Department of Justice." ...

Zelinsky Opening Statement Directly Accuses DOJ of Corruption In Stone Sentencing
One of the original attorneys in the case, Aaron Zelinsky, testifies on Wednesday before the House Judiciary Committee. He has pre-released his bombshell opening statement. It makes clear that the revised sentencing memo was a product of corruption rooted in political influence and favoritism. Stone is a buddy of Trump and Trump wanted Stone protected from prison.

Zelinsky details how his team before submitting their memo was pressured to change it, “for political reasons,” how they refused, and resigned from the case in disgust when the DOJ overruled them.

Ex-Roger Stone prosecutor to tell Congress of pressure from ‘highest levels’ to give Trump ally ‘a break’
A prosecutor who helped win the conviction of President Donald Trump’s friend Roger Stone is set to tell Congress on Wednesday that the “highest levels” of the Department of Justice pressured officials “to cut Stone a break.”

Aaron Zelinsky, one of four prosecutors who withdrew from the case after the department stepped in to lower Stone’s recommended prison sentence, will testify before the Democrat-led House Judiciary Committee in a hearing on politicization of the DOJ under Attorney General William Barr.

The panel’s 12 p.m. ET hearing comes as Barr has faced heavy criticism for his handling of high-profile cases involving matters directly related to Trump. Critics have accused Barr of undermining the independence of the Justice Department by acting in ways that benefit Trump politically.

Shortly before the start of the hearing, a federal appeals court ordered a lower-court judge to dismiss the criminal case against Michael Flynn, who briefly served as Trump’s first national security advisor. The Justice Department had filed a motion seeking to dismiss the case, and Flynn’s lawyers argued that Judge Emmet Sullivan did not promptly grant the request.

In his prepared opening statement, Zelinsky said he personally saw the department “exerting significant pressure” on prosecutors “to water down and in some cases outright distort” the events of Stone’s trial and his criminal conduct.
“What I heard — repeatedly — was that Roger Stone was being treated differently from any other defendant because of his relationship to the president,” Zelinsky said.

Jim Jordan Says Bill Barr Isn’t Doing Trump’s Bidding, He’s ‘Doing the Lord’s Work’
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, made a full-throated defense of Attorney General Bill Barr against allegations that Barr has improperly politicized the Department of Justice for the benefit of President Donald Trump and Trump allies, such as Roger Stone and Michael Flynn. Jordan said that Barr isn’t doing the president’s bidding, but is “doing the Lord’s work.”

Bill Barr’s Former Boss: Trump AG ‘Does Not Believe in Core Principle’ of the Law, But ‘Does Regularly Lie’
Attorney General Bill Barr was harshly criticized by his former supervisor during congressional testimony on Wednesday afternoon. Donald Ayer previously served as U.S. deputy attorney general under George H.W. Bush–where he was eventually succeeded by Barr.

Working as an attorney in public and private practice over the years, Ayer served under both Republican and Democratic presidents in various highly-placed positions at the Department of Justice (DOJ) starting in 1977. He is currently a partner at elite law firm Jones Day.
“I believe that William Barr poses the greatest threat, in my lifetime, to our rule of law and to public trust in it,” Ayer said during his summary opening statement before the House Judiciary Committee. “That is because he does not believe in its core principle: that no person is above the law.”

Ayer previously called Barr “un-American,” writing that the attorney general should resign or be impeached.

Which begs the question who exactly that "Lord' jordan is referring to might actually be.

Russia offered bounty to kill UK soldiers
Moscow accused of trying to give money to the Taliban as part of its campaign to destabilise America and its allies

The Russian intelligence unit behind the attempted murder in Salisbury of the former double agent Sergei Skripal secretly offered to pay Taliban-linked fighters to kill British and American soldiers in Afghanistan, according to US reports.

The revelation piles pressure on the UK to take robust action against the Kremlin amid continuing anger over the government’s delay in publishing a key report on Russian attempts to destabilise the UK.

The Russian Bounty Scandal Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone
Putin’s payments to terrorists for killing American soldiers are just another reminder that Russia is a persistent threat to the West.

On Friday, the New York Times broke the story that Russian military intelligence has been making payments to terrorists in Afghanistan—the same terrorists the United States is seeking a peace deal with—in exchange for killing U.S. servicemembers. Further reports confirmed that the rewards contributed to the deaths of American servicemembers. These are, plain and simple, bounties being put on the heads of American soldiers even as the American president sucks up to Vladimir Putin.

As Putin was rewarding the killing of U.S. troops, President Trump and his Republican supporters in Congress and friendly media were repeating the Kremlin’s debunked conspiracy theory about Ukrainian meddling in the U.S. elections, the administration was sending healthcare aid to Russia amidst the pandemic, and Trump himself was having secret conversations with Vladimir Putin with no notetaker or adviser present in the room—an unprecedented risk.

The Trump administration has not denied the story. Instead, the president of the United States claims to have been blindsided by it.

If that’s true, then it means that he hasn’t been paying attention. Because the Russian bounties should surprise no one. ...

Busted: Taliban commanders admit Russia is paying to murder US soldiers as Trump calls cash-for-killings a ‘hoax’
President Donald Trump, the Director of National Intelligence, the former acting Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Advisor, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the White House press secretary, and other Trump-appointed administration officials all have offered varying denials that Russia is paying terrorists in the Taliban to kill American soldiers, and that President Trump was briefed on the bounty program as far back as March of 2019.

Those who are not denying that Russia is paying the Taliban to kill American troops?
The Taliban.
Two current Taliban commanders and one former Taliban commander have confirmed to Business Insider “that Russia pays extremists in Afghanistan to attack US soldiers.”
“The Taliban sources were clear that this took place, and said Iran and Pakistan do it too,” Business Insider, a right-leaning news site, adds in its report.

Russia is not only paying cash – via wire transfers as The New York Times reports – to the Taliban to kill Americans, but “Taliban commanders have confirmed” Russia has also offered “material support to its members in exchange for attacking US forces in Afghanistan.”
The former Taliban commander, now a refugee in Greece, explains that the Russians “did not spend the money because we are friends. They spent it to kill their American enemies.”

Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell arrested
British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested by the FBI on Thursday on charges she helped procure underage sex partners for financier Jeffrey Epstein.

An indictment made public Thursday said Maxwell, who lived for years with Epstein and was his frequent travel companion on trips around the world, facilitated Epstein’s crimes by “helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse ” girls as young as 14. It also said she participated in the sexual abuse.

Epstein killed himself in a federal detention center in New York last summer while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The Baseline: How a Functional Executive Would Have Handled the Russian Bounty Operation
It’s increasingly clear that the Trump administration has committed a serious policy failure in its lack of response to the stream of intelligence reporting on Russian bounties placed on the heads of U.S. service members in Afghanistan. The failure to respond adequately to this threat assessment is appalling–and that’s true regardless of when President Trump himself was informed directly of this intelligence reporting.
The scandal here is not simply that President Trump has done nothing to confront Russia when U.S. service members’ lives may be on the line. It’s far worse: precisely when the president should have protected American service members, Trump instead appeased Russia and promoted Russian interests.
And precisely when the president should have been directly involved in a coordinated policy process, Trump appears to have been absent or highly detached. ...

Ghislaine Maxwell Said to Be On Suicide Watch

The Curse of Jeffrey Epstein continues with word that his associate-madam Ghislaine Maxwell is now on suicide watch in her New York prison cell soon after we learned she was willing to trade information for a reduced sentence. This is literally the same exact scenario Epstein himself was in when he was found dead in his cell on August 10, 2019.

With the dual news that Maxwell was both ready to sing and she’s on suicide watch comes snarky speculation that she’ll meet the same fate as Epstein, when she’s very much needed alive. Although she was clearly complicit in the trafficking of young girls to service Epstein’s famous friends, Maxwell is also privy to information that could be incredibly damaging to Donald Trump. ...

Was der Präsident will, ist das einzige, was zählt.

Was zeigt das? ...

A top terrorism fighter’s dire warning
Russell Travers detailed his concerns to the intelligence community’s watchdog. Days later, he says, Richard Grenell fired him.

America’s intelligence agencies risk slipping back into dangerous pre-9/11 habits, a recently departed top counterterrorism official is warning in his first public remarks on the matter.

Russell Travers, the former head of the U.S. government’s hub for analysis of counterterrorism intelligence, was so alarmed that he shared his concerns with the intelligence community’s top internal watchdog in his final weeks on the job.
“I think there are really important questions that need to be addressed, and I don’t think they have been thus far,” said Travers, who ran the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) until March of this year. “And that has me worried, because I do think we could very easily end up back where we were 20 years ago.”

Travers detailed his concerns, much of which remain highly classified, to the intelligence community’s inspector general. About a week later, he was summarily ousted, he says — and the Trump administration official who fired him didn’t explain why.
