US agencies hacked in monthslong global cyberspying campaign
In response to what may be a large-scale penetration of U.S. government agencies, the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity arm issued an emergency directive calling on all federal civilian agencies to scour their networks for compromises.

The threat apparently came from the same cyberespionage campaign that has afflicted FireEye, foreign governments and major corporations, and the FBI was investigating.
“This can turn into one of the most impactful espionage campaigns on record,” said cybersecurity expert Dmitri Alperovitch. ...

... “We anticipate this will be a very large event when all the information comes to light,” said John Hultquist, director of threat analysis at FireEye. “The actor is operating stealthily, but we are certainly still finding targets that they manage to operate in.”

Talk of secession is madness
... It is highly unlikely any state or political party would act upon this nonsense. But even the mere suggestion that we should consider a move towards separation should be shut down, because this isn’t just about our political disagreements or differing values. Threatening to disband the union has serious implications for our national security, economic well-being, cultural stability, and constitutional order. And as such, it should not be taken lightly.

Top Michigan Republicans shut down prospect of overturning result for Trump as Electoral College meets
The two top Republican officials in the Michigan state legislature on Monday made clear the state would not award its electors to President Trump as tensions bubble in the state ahead of its formal Electoral College vote.

State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R) and House Speaker Lee Chatfield (R) issued separate statements on Monday making clear the legislature would not appoint electors that undercut the state's popular vote, which Joe Biden won by nearly 140,000 votes. The statements came as Michigan closed its legislative office buildings on Monday due to credible threats of violence. ...

Stephen Miller: 'Alternate' electors will keep Trump election challenge alive
President Trump's allies are preparing to send an "alternate" slate of electors to Congress, senior White House adviser Stephen Miller said Monday, signaling Trump will drag out his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election even after the Electoral College certifies Joe Biden as the winner.

Miller, appearing on Fox News as a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, brushed off the idea that the Electoral College vote marked any kind of end to the process.
"The only date in the Constitution is Jan. 20. So we have more than enough time to right the wrong of this fraudulent election result and certify Donald Trump as the winner of the election," Miller said on "Fox & Friends."
"As we speak, today, an alternate slate of electors in the contested states is going to vote and we're going to send those results up to Congress," he continued. "This will ensure that all of our legal remedies remain open. That means that if we win these cases in the courts, that we can direct that the alternate state of electors be certified." ...

... Nothing in the Constitution or state electoral processes allows for such an "alternate" slate of electors.

Miller also raised the idea of state legislatures stepping in to overturn the results or of Congress interceding. ...

Michigan House punishes GOP Rep. Gary Eisen for hinting at Electoral College disruption
Michigan Republican legislative leaders pulled a GOP lawmaker from his committee assignments Monday after the lawmaker hinted he was part of a group that sought to disrupt or otherwise undermine the Electoral College vote slated to happen at the Capitol this afternoon.

Rep. Gary Eisen, R-St. Clair Township, made the comments Monday morning during an interview with Port Huron-area radio station WPHM. He was asked about the Electoral College, set to meet Monday in the state Senate chamber to cast the state's 16 electoral votes for President-elect Joe Biden.
Eisen made the comments in the context of he and others in Lansing having some sort of event, either at the Capitol or somewhere else. He said he could not rule out the possibility of violence.
Eisen also made reference to a threat he said was received regarding safety at the Capitol. He questioned the veracity of threat, however, calling it "convenient" and implying it would impede efforts for Trump supporters to contest the Electoral College proceedings. ...

Biden Captures Electoral Votes From All States Trump Contested
Electoral College members in all six battleground states where President Donald Trump most fiercely contested the results cast their ballots for Democrat Joe Biden on Monday, effectively cutting off the president’s path to overturning the election.

The vote marks the watershed moment some Republican lawmakers have said would signal the end of their support for attempts to overturn the Nov. 3 election.

Michigan Rep. Paul Mitchell quits GOP over party’s refusal to accept Trump loss to Biden
Rep. Paul Mitchell of Michigan quit the Republican Party on Monday over the GOP’s refusal to admit that President Donald Trump lost the election to President-elect Joe Biden.

Mitchell, in a scathing letter to GOP leaders, wrote that Trump’s baseless claims alleging widespread ballot fraud, and the Republican Party’s tolerance of those claims, threatened “long-term harm to our democracy.”
“It is unacceptable for political candidates to treat our election system as though we are a third-world nation and incite distrust of something so basic as the sanctity of our vote,” Mitchell wrote to Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.
“Further, it is unacceptable for the president to attack the Supreme Court of the United States because its judges, both liberal and conservative, did not rule with his side or that ‘the Court failed him,’” wrote Mitchell, whose letter first was reported by CNN. ...

Via tweet—of course—Donald Trump has just announced the resignation of Attorney General William Barr, who will be leaving his post as of December 23rd. BARR WAS CORRUPT UNTIL THE END
There are a couple of points worth making about the revelations that Hunter Biden — who does not hold and is not seeking any public office — is under investigation for tax evasion. The first is that Trumpist hacks trying to claim this as vindication for the claims that the lamestream media rigged the election by suppressing the blockbuster story of Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP is hilarious, given that the tax investigation…has nothing to do with the bullshit Rudy was trying to sell: ...

Donald Trump Has Hidden Evidence Of His Crimes For Years. Joe Biden Can Expose It.
The new administration should open the books and expose the Trump administration’s misdeeds.

... While some of Trump’s potential crimes have already been outlined by prosecutors or special counsels — like in the Mueller report, or the indictment that sent Michael Cohen to prison for paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels — not every crime or improper act has been recorded. Many are simply suspected based on public reporting and allegations made by former officials.
“There is a ton of information about the Trump administration that can come out pretty easily with the Biden administration just restoring normal practices,” said Jordan Libowitz, spokesman for the liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

CREW has released a report on how a Biden administration can create a more open government while also exposing the misdeeds of his predecessor, as has a coalition of transparency and watchdog groups under the banner of Accountability 2021. These reports contain a litany of recommendations that Biden could adopt immediately upon taking office. ...

GOP gubernatorial candidate in Virginia calls on Trump to declare martial law
State Sen. Amanda Chase (R), a Republican candidate for governor in Virginia, called on President Trump to declare martial law to keep Joe Biden from being sworn in as the next president.

Writing in a Facebook post early in the morning on Tuesday, Chase said Biden is “not my president and never will be,” while linking to a New York Times story detailing how the Electoral College had certified Biden’s election victory.
