Forum in Sankt Petersburg

Trump lobs another insult at Pelosi aboard Air Force One
President Donald Trump used his downtime on Air Force One to fire off another attack on Nancy Pelosi, scolding the House speaker for privately criticizing him while he was overseas.

Though Trump has not stuck to the political tradition of leaving politics on America’s shores while abroad, he referred to the speaker using a newly coined nickname, writing in a tweet that "Nervous Nancy Pelosi is a disgrace to herself and her family for having made such a disgusting statement, especially since I was with foreign leaders overseas.”

Analysis: Trump an impolitic guest on trips abroad
Halfway through a summer set of four international trips, President Donald Trump has proven himself to be an impolitic guest, soaking up pomp and pageantry while leaving behind hosts he scorched despite their best efforts to favor the president with flattery.

Trump on Friday wrapped up five days in Europe that, much like his stay in Japan two weeks earlier, showed how his “America First” foreign policy mixed with his “Me First” Twitter habit have made him an unpredictable partner for America’s allies, who continue to grapple with how to manage the president and fortify economic and strategic ties with the United States.

Time after time, diplomatic niceties fell by the wayside as the president contradicted and undermined his hosts.
“Not only has Trump been ungracious on these trips, he is losing credibility with his behavior,” said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley. “No world leader can trust President Trump because at any moment he may shatter the glass right in front of him; a single whim, or tweet, could upend a deal that had been months in the making. He leaves world leaders wiping their brows and wishing for him to leave.”

Trump’s $3.6 Million Ireland Detour Brings Taxpayer-Funded Golf Tab To $105.8 million
His for-profit golf course there posted promotional videos of him teeing off and his helicopter’s arrival — but deleted them after HuffPost began making inquiries.

President Donald Trump wrapped up a visit to his Ireland golf resort Friday, in the process adding at least another $3.6 million to a taxpayer-funded golf tab that totals nearly $106 million in just 2 1/2 years.

Trump played golf Friday morning and possibly also played Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The White House press corps was not allowed on the property and was instead kept at a hotel in Limerick, more than an hour away from Trump’s resort in Doonbeg.

‘The Cruelty Is the Point’
I frequently disagree with The Atlantic’s Adam Serwer, but late last year he wrote a piece that should resonate with any person who’s been in the crosshairs of the MAGA right. A fundamental aspect of truly Trumpist political engagement is the intentional infliction of harm on political opponents. Cruelty is the point of their interactions. That’s the purpose of their communication.

Donald Trump’s personal pugilism has been adopted, refined, and magnified by a legion of his supporters, and these individuals live to inflict misery.
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/th...y-is-the-point/

The Cruelty Is the Point
President Trump and his supporters find community by rejoicing in the suffering of those they hate and fear.

...Once malice is embraced as a virtue, it is impossible to contain.
The cruelty of the Trump administration’s policies, and the ritual rhetorical flaying of his targets before his supporters, are intimately connected. ...

... It is not just that the perpetrators of this cruelty enjoy it; it is that they enjoy it with one another. Their shared laughter at the suffering of others is an adhesive that binds them to one another, and to Trump.

Taking joy in that suffering is more human than most would like to admit. Somewhere on the wide spectrum between adolescent teasing and the smiling white men in the lynching photographs are the Trump supporters whose community is built by rejoicing in the anguish of those they see as unlike them, who have found in their shared cruelty an answer to the loneliness and atomization of modern life.

The laughter undergirds the daily spectacle of insincerity, as the president and his aides pledge fealty to bedrock democratic principles they have no intention of respecting. ...

The president and his advisers have sought to enrich themselves at taxpayer expense; they have attempted to corrupt federal law-enforcement agencies to protect themselves and their cohorts, and they have exploited the nation’s darkest impulses in the pursuit of profit. But their ability to get away with this fraud is tied to cruelty.

Trump’s only true skill is the con; his only fundamental belief is that the United States is the birthright of straight, white, Christian men, and his only real, authentic pleasure is in cruelty. It is that cruelty, and the delight it brings them, that binds his most ardent supporters to him, in shared scorn for those they hate and fear: immigrants, black voters, feminists, and treasonous white men who empathize with any of those who would steal their birthright. The president’s ability to execute that cruelty through word and deed makes them euphoric. It makes them feel good, it makes them feel proud, it makes them feel happy, it makes them feel united. And as long as he makes them feel that way, they will let him get away with anything, no matter what it costs them.

Malignant narcissists do accordingly to who they are. Trumski is a malignant narcissist.
He is not fit for the office he holds. And the US is going to pay dearly for this grave error. If she survives it.

The February budget deficit was also the highest one-month deficit on record, eclipsing the previous record set in 2012.

Trump administration is responsible for the largest reduction in protected land in US history, study finds
The Trump administration is responsible for the largest reduction in the boundaries of protected land in US history according to a new study.

The study, one of the most comprehensive to date, was published Friday in the journal Science.
The study noted that in 2017, the Trump administration enacted two of the largest downsizes of protected lands in US history; Grand-Staircase Escalante National Monument in southern Utah lost 51% of its protected land and Bears Ears lost 85%. With those actions, land twice the size of Rhode Island came out of protection.

Trump Administration Plans to Reclassify High-Level Radioactive Waste as Low-Risk
The Trump administration is planning to reclassify high-level radioactive waste as low-risk, in a bid to cut as much as $40 billion from cleanup costs at nuclear weapons production sites around the U.S. A top Energy Department official called the proposal a “responsible, results-driven solution” to the problem of nuclear waste disposal. The move was condemned by environmentalists and scientists who say the waste needs to be contained in facilities deep underground.

NYT: Mexico Had Already Agreed to Border Measures Trump Said Were Taken to Avert Tariffs
President Donald Trump spent much of Saturday celebrating the deal his administration sealed with Mexico mere days before threatened tariffs were set to take effect. But, in truth, the agreement consists of a series of measures that Mexico had agreed to months earlier, the New York Times reports, citing officials on both sides of the border.

The centerpiece of the agreement involves a measure that effectively expands a program that allows those seeking asylum in the United States to wait in Mexico while their claims are processed. The program was already in place at three of the busiest border crossings, but the Times notes Mexico had already agreed to expand the program to the entire border.

The joint declaration by the two countries issued Friday also highlights that Mexico had agreed to deploy National Guard troops throughout the country, and especially along its southern border, to stop the flow of migrants. But the Mexican government had already agreed to do that in March. Mexico managed to push back on a demand—which would have truly marked a change—that involved a designation of a “safe third country,” meaning the United States could reject asylum-seekers if they had not sought refuge in Mexico first.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019...es-tariffs.html

"... Earlier, Sen. Chuck Schumer sarcastically responded to the president’s announcement, calling it a “historic night.” Trump “has announced that he has cut a deal to ‘greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States,’” Schumer wrote. “Now that that problem is solved, I’m sure we won’t be hearing any more about it in the future.”

"...“Everyone very excited about the new deal with Mexico!” the president tweeted Saturday morning, adding: “Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement for both the United States and Mexico!”

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Reuters the deal would “fix the immigration issue.”
https://www.thedailybeast.com/dems-accus...ched-months-ago
