What can be said about this?
1. There is little to no evidence in the Gospels to suggest that Jesus was a patriotic Jew. Perhaps just the passage in the Gospel of Mark where he meets the Syro-Phoenician woman (Mark 7:24–30).
2. Nor was Jesus murdered by the Romans; rather, he was sentenced to death by the hesitant Roman governor Pontius Pilate as a result of a plot by the Sanhedrin.
3. Jim Caviezel played Jesus, just as Robert Powell and others did before him. These are FILMS. Jim has not published any blasphemous posts portraying himself as Jesus.
4. However, Jim Caviezel did not wage a groundless and senseless war of aggression that cost tens of thousands of lives, not to mention the economic upheaval.
5. Jesus never claimed to be the Son of God? The Gospel of Matthew 16:15–17 says otherwise. Of course, there are other passages in the Gospels as well.
6. Jesus was never prepared to fight ‘Rome’ – this is supported by many passages (Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; Those who take up the sword will perish by the sword) in the Gospels, but also by Jesus’ refusal to join the Zealots.
7. Trump couldn’t care less about the ‘healing of Iran’. The man who threatened to wipe out an entire civilisation had many motives for war, but certainly not to end the rapes and killings, which have reached a whole new level in this war
8. The Iranian mullahs are no more universally monsters and scoundrels than the rabbis. It is true that there are bad apples among both groups – unfortunately, even among priests – but to claim they are all like that is utter nonsense.
9. Trump has done nothing to promote morality. He would also be one of the last people to stand for morality at all. We’re not talking about Jimmy Carter, but ‘grab them by the pussies’ Trump, whose dealings – even in the White House – are more than dubious.
10. I do, of course, understand the urgent desire to defend this president, who has done so much for, hmm, who exactly? But perhaps one could go about it a bit more skilfully.
