John Bolton: The Scandal of Trump’s China Policy
The president pleaded with Chinese leader Xi Jinping for domestic political help, subordinated national-security issues to his own reelection prospects and ignored Beijing’s human-rights abuses.

"...Trump then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability and pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win. He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. "

"... Trump commingled the personal and the national not just on trade questions but across the whole field of national security. I am hard-pressed to identify any significant Trump decision during my White House tenure that wasn’t driven by reelection calculations. "

"...In 2018, for example, he reversed penalties that Ross and the Commerce Department had imposed on ZTE. In 2019, he offered to reverse criminal prosecution against Huawei if it would help in the trade deal—which, of course, was primarily about getting Trump re-elected in 2020...."

'... These and innumerable other similar conversations with Trump formed a pattern of fundamentally unacceptable behavior that eroded the very legitimacy of the presidency. "

Mike Pompeo slipped Bolton a disparaging and profane note about Trump as president was meeting with Kim Jong-un: report
...Bolton, wrote Peter Baker, paints a “withering portrait of a president ignorant of even basic facts about the world, susceptible to transparent flattery by authoritarian leaders manipulating him and prone to false statements, foul-mouthed eruptions and snap decisions that aides try to manage or reverse.”

...“Mr. Trump did not seem to know, for example, that Britain is a nuclear power and asked if Finland is part of Russia, Mr. Bolton writes,” said the report. “He came closer to withdrawing the United States from NATO than previously known.
Even top advisers who position themselves as unswervingly loyal mock him behind his back. During Mr. Trump’s 2018 meeting with North Korea’s leader, according to the book, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slipped Mr. Bolton a note disparaging the president, saying, ‘He is so full of shit.'” ...

Bolton: Trump's not 'fit for office,' doesn't have 'competence to carry out the job'
In an ABC interview, Bolton says Trump was singularly focused on reelection.

President Donald Trump is not "fit for office" and doesn't have "the competence to carry out the job," his former national security adviser John Bolton told ABC News in an exclusive interview.
In an explosive new book about his 17 months at the White House, Bolton characterizes Trump as "stunningly uninformed," ignorant of basic facts and easily manipulated by foreign adversaries.
But his assessment that Trump is not "fit" to be president is among the most stunning indictments of a sitting president by one of their own top advisers in American history.

Bolton was Trump's longest serving national security adviser, accompanying the president to his two summits with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, his infamous meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin, and several key meetings with China's Xi Jinping, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other world leaders on the sidelines of major events, like the G-20.

He departed the White House on Sept. 10 -- saying he submitted his resignation letter after months of disagreement with the president, who countered that he fired Bolton first.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/bolton-t...ory?id=71311306

But then again, most people knew that already. Even many of those who support him to this day.
It is just now that it comes once more from the inside of the White House. And from a long standing idol of Repugnianism and a talkshow darling of Fox News on top of that.

Es wird lustig werden zu sehen, wie die Figur Bolton von seinen frueheren 'Buddies im Geiste' in seiner Person nun verteufelt und heruntergemacht werden wird.:-)

Trump Appointee Fires Heads of U.S.-Funded Media Outlets, Packs Board With Loyalists
This month, President Donald Trump successfully coerced Senate Republicans to ram through the stalled nomination of conservative filmmaker Michael Pack to run the United States Agency for Global Media, which oversees a handful of federally funded but editorially independent media organizations, like Voice of America.
Pack, an ally of former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, was selected by Trump in hopes of steering favorable coverage from the group of outlets, which, put together, amount to one of the largest media networks in the world.
Trump has railed on about the buttoned up coverage of VOA, which broadcasts in 40 languages to as many as 280 million people a week, at one point referring to it as the “Voice of the Soviet Union,” and more recently accusing it of reciting Chinese propaganda.

On Wednesday night, Pack did what he was sent to do and summarily fired the heads of the five media organizations overseen by the media agency. Pack also dismissed the bipartisan board that oversees the media organizations, replacing it with Trump loyalists, including himself as the chair.

Fox News Argues Viewers Don't Assume Tucker Carlson Reports Facts
Tucker Carlson doesn't have an obligation to investigate the truth of statements before making them on his show, and his audience doesn't expect him to report facts, a lawyer for Fox News told a New York federal judge on Wednesday.

The network is facing a slander lawsuit from Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who made headlines over a $150,000 payment she received from the National Enquirer in connection with her alleged affair with Donald Trump.

McDougal claims Carlson defamed her and accused her of a crime in a segment that also discussed Stormy Daniels.

Powerful US attorney who investigated Trump associates refuses to step down after Barr tries to push him out
In a fast-escalating crisis Friday night, Attorney General William Barr tried to oust Geoffrey Berman, the powerful US attorney for the Southern District of New York who has investigated a number of associates of President Donald Trump, but Berman defied him by refusing to step down.

In an extraordinary statement sent roughly an hour after Barr said Berman was set to leave the office, Berman said he had learned of his purported exit from a press release.

READ: Geoffrey Berman responds to Justice Department's press release on his resignation
Geoffrey Berman, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York who has investigated a number of associates with ties to President Donald Trump, said he will not leave his post shortly after the Department of Justice announced late Friday night he was stepping down. Read his full statement:

"I learned in a press release from the Attorney General tonight that I was 'stepping down' as United States Attorney. I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning, my position, to which I was appointed by the Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. I will step down when a presidentially appointed nominee is confirmed by the Senate. Until then, our investigations will move forward without delay or interruption. I cherish every day that I work with the men and women of this Office to pursue justice without fear or favor -- and intend to ensure that this Office's important cases continue unimpeded."

'I have not resigned': Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman fires back at Barr, who says he's leaving

Manhattan US attorney refuses to resign despite DOJ ouster
The Justice Department abruptly announced late Friday night that it would replace the U.S. attorney in Manhattan who oversaw probes into several allies of President Trump, though the federal prosecutor said he had no plans to resign.

The Justice Department (DOJ) said in a press release that it is replacing Geoffrey Berman, the powerful prosecutor for the Southern District of New York whose office ran the probe that sent Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen to prison and is investigating his current personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

“I thank Geoffrey Berman, who is stepping down after two-and-a-half years of service as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. With tenacity and savvy, Geoff has done an excellent job leading one of our nation’s most significant U.S. Attorney’s Offices, achieving many successes on consequential civil and criminal matters,” said Attorney General William Barr. ...

Barr Tries To Sack U.S. Attorney Probing Trump’s Pals. But Geoffrey Berman Says He’s Not Leaving.
After the A.G. announced he’d resigned, Berman, who’s probed and convicted the president’s allies, said he had not—and suggested Trump and Barr lacked the power to remove him.

... The move stunned officials and trial attorneys inside Main Justice, as the Department’s Washington, D.C. headquarters is known. Two individuals in the Department’s Civil Division confirmed to The Daily Beast that Berman had been offered and declined the chance to run the division, where assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt had abruptly announced her departure this week, but declined. Barr reportedly then asked for Berman’s resignation and, when Berman didn’t offer it, the attorney general simply announced it.
One other official said the news of Berman’s apparent ouster came as a shock, as did the decision to nominate Clayton, who has no prosecutorial experience.

Berman’s statement pointedly stressed that he had been put in role at SDNY by federal district court judges, with a term that expires only when the Senate has given its consent to the president’s nominee—suggesting that Barr and Trump may note have the authority to remove him given the separation of powers issues doing so would raise.
Late Friday night, House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler, one of the architects of Trump’s impeachment case, wrote that “America is right to expect the worst of Bill Barr, who has repeatedly interfered in criminal investigations on Trump’s behalf. We have a hearing on this topic on Wednesday. We welcome Mr. Berman’s testimony and will invite him to testify.”

Berman was appointed in 2018 after his predecessor, Preet Bharara, an Obama appointee, was fired by Trump after refusing to step down. Bharara’s No. 2, Joon Kim, then served as the acting U.S. Attorney—the usual protocol to maintain continuity in ongoing cases.

Notably, Barr said Friday that he would be moving New Jersey’s U.S. Attorney to New York to replace Berman in an acting role and run the office often nicknamed the “Sovereign District” for its independence and sweeping authority given how much of the nation’s financial life flows through Manhattan.
“This is highly irregular,” former Justice Department Inspector General Michael Bromwich noted on Twitter: “Why the rush to get Geoff Berman out the door and cause disarray in three different offices at once?”

Berman was appointed in 2018, more than a year after Bharara had been fired by Trump. Under Berman, the SDNY carried out numerous investigations and prosecutions that impinged on Trumpworld—including the indictment of the president’s personal lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen.
Bharara took umbrage on Friday to Barr’s attempt to boot Berman, asking “Why does a president get rid of his own hand-picked US Attorney in SDNY on a Friday night, less than 5 months before the election?”

While Berman was initially viewed with some suspicion as a Trump donor and former partner of Rudy Giuliani’s at the firm of Greenberg Traurig, he won over many skeptics inside and outside the office after he took the job and began pursuing presidential allies.
“Geoff has exceeded everybody’s expectations,” Hadassa Waxman, a Democrat who worked under Bharara, told the Associated Press last year. “From Day One, he went in there and said, ‘This is going to be the Southern District. There’s not going to be any change. I’m going to lead the office with the same integrity, commitment to fairness.’”

SDNY filed charges against financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein before his jailhouse death, and fired shots across the bow at the United Kingdom’s Prince Andrew for his alleged involvement with the accused sex trafficker.
In February 2019, Berman’s prosecutors subpoenaed the Trump inaugural committee, seeking information on everything from vendors to donors—including a contributor named Imaad Zuberi, who was eventually charged with obstructing the SDNY probe.
In its investigation of hush money paid by Trump’s campaign to cover up the president’s extramarital affairs with Stormy Daniels and other women, the SDNY secured a conviction of Cohen on charges of tax evasion, making false statements to a federally insured bank, and campaign finance violations. He was sentenced to three years in prison but later released as a result of preventative measures against the new coronavirus.
The case against Cohen produced a non-prosecution agreement against American Media, Inc., parent company of the National Enquirer, which made the payments on behalf of Cohen to suppress the stories, a practice known as “catch and kill.” Berman later looked into Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos’ claim that AMI tried to blackmail Bezos about his extramarital affair.
Other Trumpworld associates found themselves in the sights of Berman’s office. SDNY brought charges against Natalya Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who shopped dirt on Hillary Clinton to the Trump campaign, in a tangentially related case. Berman also indicted Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, associates of Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who were accused of pumping foreign money into efforts to support Trump—a probe that also led prosecutors to scrutinize Giuliani’s finances.

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton claims in his forthcoming book, The Room Where It Happened, that Trump told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that the SDNY investigation into Turkish bank Halkbank would disappear once all the “Obama people” were “replaced by his people.”

Donald Trump’s Presidency Is a Saturday-Night Massacre That Never Ends
The Trump administration’s assault on judges, watchdogs, and the ideal of impartial justice is ripped straight from the modern autocrat’s playbook, experts say

Attorney General William Barr’s ham-fisted firing this weekend of Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the powerful Southern District of New York, bears all the hallmarks of the Trump administration’s shoot-first-aim-second approach to governing. But the clumsiness of Berman’s ouster shouldn’t overshadow the chilling message sent by the firing of a veteran federal prosecutor who was leading possible criminal investigations that could implicate Trump associates, Trump family members, and possibly the president himself.

It’s important to step back and see Berman’s ouster for what it really is: the latest in a series of firings, interventions, and interferences by Attorney General Barr and his loyalists that appear designed to benefit Trump and the president’s political allies. Before Berman’s removal, there was DOJ’s decision to drop its own case against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former Trump national security adviser who had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. Before Flynn’s case, there was the DOJ’s last-minute intervention to seek a more lenient sentence for ex-Trump adviser Roger Stone, who was found guilty of lying to Congress and obstructing a federal investigation. Before Stone’s case, there was Barr’s attempt to mislead the media and the public about the conclusions of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. ...

Oops, she did it again—Rep. Katie Porter checks Trump's 'golfing buddy' during hearing
On Friday, June 19, Attorney General William Barr lied to the world and said that U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey Berman had resigned. He hadn’t. The man investigating Donald Trump’s friends and allies (and possibly Trump himself) for myriad crimes was fired by Trump and Barr. It remains one of the more brazen abuses of power in a presidential tenure that includes almost nothing but corruption and abuses of power.

The Trump administration wants to replace Berman with Jay Clayton, the current chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. During a hearing held by a subcommittee of the House Committee on Financial Services on Thursday, Democrats asked Clayton questions about how he might be as a prosecutor. Clayton took a page from people like Mick Mulvaney, telling the lawmakers that he wasn’t going to give up his job but he was also not going to withdraw his nomination to help the Trump administration squash investigations into their possible dirty dealings.

Democratic Rep. Katie Porter of California has made something of a name for herself in committee hearings the past couple of years. She has stood up to banking CEOs and feckless Trump administration stooges, and she has exposed their incompetences and hypocrisies every time. Her questioning of Clayton was no different. Rep. Porter began by asking Clayton about bipartisanship—specifically, if he truly believed he would be able to show the kind of objective integrity a U.S. attorney is required to have. Clayton, of course, said that he totally would be able to do that. In fact, Clayton said he already did do that as the chairman of the SEC.

One of Rep. Porter’s great strengths is her reliance on facts and not the gaslighting bullcaca most Republican operatives peddle in these days. Porter decided to take Mr. Clayton at his word and asked him to provide a single example of a regulation or deregulation passed by the SEC under Clayton that had bipartisan support. Clayton couldn’t come up with one because there are none. Clayton couldn’t come up with one because he’s a tool. Clayton couldn’t come up with one because to last this long in this administration, one must embody the soulless hackery of an absolute sociopath. ...

Mary Trump - “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man”

Mary Trump’s book, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” is scheduled to be released July 28. Publisher Simon & Schuster describes the book as a “revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him.”

“She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald,” the description says. ...

... As Donald Trump announced his candidacy in 2015, Mary Trump does not appear to have said anything publicly about him.
But when it became clear that her uncle had won the presidency, she took to Twitter.

“Worst night of my life,” she wrote at least 12 times in tweets that have been deleted recently. She wrote that “We should be judged harshly. . . . I grieve for our country.”

As the pandemic rages, Trump indulges his obsessions
With the pandemic exploding and setting record infection rates, President Donald Trump spent the weekend on his own often divisive obsessions, piling up new evidence for detractors who say he's not fit for office.

The President largely ignored the implications of the disastrous US government response to the worst public health crisis in 100 years, even though it emerged late on Friday in CNN reporting that the White House is taking vigorous efforts to protect him from infection at rallies that contravene social distancing and masking guidelines, and that put even his own supporters at risk of getting sick.
Trump did, however, find time to defend a statue of former President Andrew Jackson, who retired to his slave plantation in 1837, and to retweet a video in which a supporter chanted "white power."
Trump denied reports that he was briefed that Russia offered a bounty for the killings of US and UK soldiers by the Taliban -- but didn't say how he would respond and stand up for American troops if the story was true.
And Trump, who lambasted his predecessor Barack Obama for his less prolific golf hobby, made two trips to his Virginia course, despite boasting that he canceled a weekend trip to his New Jersey resort to make sure "law and order is enforced" in Washington, DC. ...
