Ignorance is not bliss: The dangerous politics of anti-intellectualism

... Preying on and supported by their work, Trump has now become a kind of folk hero for many Americans, who believe everything he says despite his staggering record of lying thousands upon thousands of times about both the most ridiculous and the most important types of things.
This is the consequence of a society allowing facts to become subjective, a society allowing any introduction of doubt to dismantle any mountain of evidence.

You see, cranks have been with us always, but rightly marginalized. Crankery has now been mainstreamed. Anti-intellectualism has reached a new high water mark.

A Trumpean ethos has taken hold saying it’s OK to form hard-line opinions and make wild, malicious accusations without evidence, because we’re Americans, and we don’t need facts to know that we’re right.
This degrades us all, not only as a society and a country, but also as human beings.

Ivanka Trump was involved in inauguration’s inflated payments to family business — and so was the president: lawsuit
Then-President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka were warned in 2016 that the family business was overcharging the nonprofit presidential inaugural committee — and let it happen anyway, according to a suit filed Wednesday by the Washington, D.C., attorney general.

In the civil complaint, Attorney General Karl Racine charged the Trump inaugural committee and the Trump Organization with using around $1 million of charitable funds to improperly enrich the Trump family.

Conservatives are finally waking up to the fact that Republican tax plans hurt them: columnist
Analyses of the GOP tax plan, signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2017, show that it never truly trickled down to anyone. A report from the Congressional Budget Office on the bill showed a wage growth of just 3.1 percent. To put that in context, the year before the GOP tax cut, April 2015 to Jan. 2016 had a 3 percent increase in wage growth.

Similarly, Trump’s promised that the U.S. economy would grow up to 6 percent. In fact, it has fallen to less than 2 percent.

The only benefit has been to the stock market, where companies raise money for their companies by selling stocks. With a hefty tax cut to those corporations, it makes sense that the measure of corporate success would show benefits from the tax bill aimed to benefit them.

“Trump’s 2017 tax legislation was pitched as a cut for the ‘middle class,'” wrote Olsen, “in truth, it was typical Republican supply-side economics. Large- and medium-sized businesses got most of the benefit. The major reason many middle-class families got a cut was the bill’s increase in the child tax credit, an idea pushed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and his allies but strenuously opposed at the time by traditional tax cutters. With the elimination of personal exemptions and the limit of certain deductions, some middle- and upper-middle-class empty-nest taxpayers even got a tax hike.”

Trump even admitted that his so-called “middle-class tax cut” was never aimed at actually cutting middle-class taxes. Just weeks before the 2018 mid-term election, Trump announced that he would be doing an actual middle-class tax cut in 2019.
“We’re putting in a resolution some time in the next week and a half to two weeks [and] we’re giving a middle-income tax reduction of about 10 percent,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The promise of a middle-class tax cut from the GOP or the White House in 2019 never manifested. Now Trump is promising it again. ...

Also, je zurückhaltender Sie in diesem Punkt Trump etwas vorwerfen, desto weniger lächerlich wirkt es.

Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008

Was natuerlich beim hirntoten Kult ohne Muehe gelingt.

Tendenz steigend.

Trump tries to shore up evangelical support at March for Life rally
The president rips into Democrats, accusing them of embracing "the most radical and extreme positions."
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/24...-support-103588

Trump, a late convert to cause, attends anti-abortion rally
He used his speech to attack Democrats as embracing “radical and extreme positions” on abortion and praised those attending the event, saying they were motivated by “pure, unselfish love.” He also recited actions he’s taken as president that were sought by social conservatives, including the confirmation of 187 federal judges.

“Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House,” he declared.

Trump once declared in a 1999 interview that “I am pro-choice in every respect.”

Now, as he heads into the 2020 election, Trump continues to reach out to the white evangelical voters who have proven to be among his most loyal backers.

“I think it’s a brilliant move,” said Ralph Reed, chair of the Faith and Freedom Coalition and one of Trump’s most prominent evangelical supporters. Reed said the president’s appearance would “energize and remind pro-life voters what a great friend this president and administration has been.”
